What is progressive rock ?

"It is music that does progress. It takes an idea and developes it, rather than just repeat it. Pop songs are about repetition and riffs and simplicity. Progressive music takes a riff, turns it inside out, plays it upside down and the other way around, and explores its potential."

Keith Emerson

Kvazar is a norwegian progressive rock band consisting of the three members; André Jensen, Kim A.Lieberknecht and Ronny Borge (Johansen). The group was founded late in -97, and in 2000 they released their first self-titled album. The 2nd. album released on the Musea label in June 2005.

NEWS!  Our new cd's title is: A giant's Lullaby. A music video follows the album, and will be put out on this site for download. We hope this CD will take a musical step far beyond our first release. We have involved a wide spectra of musicians on this album to achieve our target of sound, and we have cut each part in pieces to reach it. This time we also have played on the "master of samplers", the mellotron, to get this 70'ties feeling, along with Rhodes 73. The mellotron is exactly the same King Crimson played on in the seventies. Also you find additional instruments like flute, saxophone, mandolin and 12 strings guitar on the album.   A short Summary

The music-style of Kvazar is a result of each members individual taste and is brought to life in their songs. Ronny makes his influence with his keyboard sound, Kim makes a groovy rhythm together with bass and guitars. At this moment a song have it's style and when André adds a vocal on top, you have to redesider your view, because it sometimes turn out to be a whole different song. This freedom to compose songs designs Kvazar's unique sound.

1997 Kvazar made their first demo, played on a 4 multitracks AKAI. At this demo Christian Torp was the bass player, which later rejoined the group in 2001.Some of this song was later released on the KVAZAR kvazar CD in 2000, together with the demo made in -98. The 2.nd line-up was Endré Tønnesen, Kim.A Lieberknecht, André Jensen, Ronny Johansen and Rune Olsen. The first demo was released with limited copies on the label kvarts records.

1998 Kvazar began their work with their cd project. Rune Olsen had to leave the group and Alex Knøsmoen replaced him.A demo was first made as a start on the project. The recording was made at "the Barn" in Fredrikstad in a cold february-99. With frozen fingers and gallons of consumed coffe later, we were ready with the recordings at early summer. We removed the project to silent studio in Oslo for further mixing and made new takes on parts we were not satisfied with.

1999 Late in the year we visited Strype Audio in Oslo for mastering. It was one song we were not satisfied with. The song called 18. Alex Knøsmoen made a melody line which Endre Tønnesen put a vocal on. At the beginning this song was tend to be an instrumental one, but we found that this was pretty boring. After a hearing on the master we had to bring it back to Strype Audio, because it was too much low frequencies on the songs.

2000 The  cover design took us some time to design. This because we had few ideas and in the meantime Endre and Alex resigned the group, and we lost our bandroom. Rest of this year was without exercising. We sent the mastering to MUSEA records late in the year and it took almost 4 months before they were ready to release it.

2001 Kvazar found a new place to exercise. We played a concert in connection with the release on the MUSEA label. Endre and Alex joined this concert. Later this year as a replacement, Christian Torp rejoined the group together with Jon Erik, the new guitar player. We started on working with our next CD since we had enough material to release another one.

2002 We started the recording on the next CD. The place this time was at a well known sound engineer in Fredrikstad nick-named Kællen. He worked with us during the whole process, recording, mastering, tips&tricks etc.

2004 Because of working with a big surprise, we are a little bit delayed.

2005 Release date June. Title: A giant's lullaby. One of the songs have a music video which will be downloadable from this side.
